  • What is the UBC Tax Clinic?
    As a tax clinic under the CVITP, our main goal is to assist low-income individuals and students in completing their Canadian income tax returns. The clinic is overseen by a committed team, which includes UBC student volunteers, supervisors, and members of the TACS executive.
  • When is the UBC Tax Clinic open?
    February 26 to April 13 Monday - Friday: 10:30 AM - 6:00 PM Saturday: 10:30 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Who is eligible to get help from the UBC Tax Clinic?
    Individuals that have a modest income and a simple tax situation are eligible to get help from the clinic. This may include: adults 65 years and older housing-insecure individuals Indigenous Peoples modest-income individuals newcomers persons with disabilities students and youth In general, a tax situation is simple if an individual has no income or if their income comes from these sources: employment pension benefits, such as the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, disability insurance, employment insurance, and social assistance Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs) scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, or grants interest (under $1,000) Individuals with the following are ineligible to get help from the clinic: self-employment income or employment expenses business income and expenses rental income and expenses interest income over $1,000 capital gains or losses bankruptcy in the tax year (or the year before, if that return has not yet been filed) deceased person foreign property (T1135) foreign income
  • Where can I get my tax return filed if UBC TACS is unable to help me?
    You can reach out to another Tax Clinic through this directory.
  • What happens if I don’t have all my tax documents?
    Our volunteers will not be able to file your tax return without ALL your tax documents. Kindly reschedule your appointment to ensure that you’re able to bring all your tax documents with you.
  • I don’t have my SIN yet, what should I do?
    Our volunteers will not be able to file your tax return without your Social Insurance Number (SIN). If you don’t have your SIN yet, you can apply through this link. Kindly reschedule your appointment to ensure that you have your SIN with you.
  • How do I book an appointment for the UBC Tax Clinic?
    You can book an appointment through this link or walk-in during our Operating Hours. Operating Hours: February 26 to April 13 Monday - Friday: 10:30 AM - 6:00 PM Saturday: 10:30 AM - 4:00 PM
  • What do I need to prepare for my appointment?
    Bring the following: Government photo ID Confirmation email SIN Relevant tax documents: T2202, T4A, T4, T5
  • How do I get the documents I need for my appointment?
    You can get your T2202 and T4A from the SSC website (Finances > Tax forms > T2202/T4A Tax form). You can get a copy of your T4 from your employer.
  • What happens if I lost or forgot my password?
    Each individual is given a password for their tax return at the time of the appointment. It is your responsibility to remember your password. UBC TACS cannot guarantee that we will be able to retrieve the password used for your return should you lose it. Alternatively, you can access your tax information through CRA My Account.
